First notions, First year, First month @ MC
I would like to bring to notice the fact that MC means ‘My college’.
It can be really precarious to be a first year sometimes. Playing pranks and prattling in class can make seniors prance on us (which is now proved so wrong). What did I exactly feel when I stepped foot for the first time at MC? Majestic, No, it’s something like man’s first step to moon. Okay, I get it, I am exaggerating. I am still searching for the exact word that puts my feeling for MC in all the dictionaries (including OXFORD, CAMBRIDGE and even the DORLING KINDERSLEY version which my cousin suggested) I could possibly manage to get. I hope that I find the right word before I leave.
That day - You may now think which day. It’s August 10th - a pretty lousy day not because of the weather but due to my own turmoil and tantrums. I along with my father, mother and my cousin geared up to MC with all the hopes and aspirations we could muster. My father squealed the brakes a little away from the main entrance and I got what is known as my first vivid sight of my new incarnated life. They say I am in college, indeed! But my mind was arguing I was in some 13th standard or something - it was simply battling with itself and finally I got crazy thinking this and that. It was the bright red posters proclaiming ‘WELCOME TO RED FORT’ which brought me back to my senses. The main entrance was indeed an architectural marvel. As we stepped onto it we were stunned by the presence of huge (I mean really huge) pillars and photographs of great leaders. There was a two way staircase leading upwards and we moved sideways to the Amphi-theatre and then to the Seminar Hall. All the papers were signed and forms submitted making me a MC-ian. On August 12th , there was an Orientation Class and finally on August 17th I got to see my new class and new bubbling chilling friends. We got to see the dedicated experienced professors who made us do Self-Intro and we are now in a position to write the biography of our friends. We were introduced to the new CGPA system which was introduced by our university for the first time and that to us! Phew! Time tables were distributed, syllabus pamphlets given and we got to realize that after all college is not only for enjoyment but there is something called as studying too. We were threatened by mech, civil and electrical workshop instructors that if you are not precise and careful, we could end up to the Final Embodiment. The goosebumps we got those days!!! Our period schedule was flooded with labs and workshops that we felt almost giddy.
Looking back, now more than a month have passed, I feel definitely in-the-air-but-firmly-grounded sort of feeling. The stone benches under the shade of huge grandma and grandpa trees which is just sideways to ‘The College Co-operative Society’ which is ever struggling to get coins for a change, the seniors-dominated canteen, the widespread vast campus area full of zig-zag roads and hidden shortcuts, the jungle bushes entwining every inch of the sports ground, the hockey play area showcasing champs in colorful jerseys, the mini-bank and post-office, the leaky ceilings of the restrooms, the broken panes and weary paint of the main-block, the star-shaped pond and the finely cut garden bushes, the college bus stands with bright blue boards proclaiming the destination stops of the respective buses, the ever-stretching compound walls….hey, wait! How could I possibly express the never-ending list right here!...but all these little things make my college adorable and amazing.
I know it’s too early for a fresher to feel all these but that is the power of MC! You are endearing in all aspects, MC!
